The past year has unearthed a plethora of new robotics technologies to face the myriad of challenges in areas from healthcare to manufacturing. Robotic solutions are also increasingly needed to help with recovery efforts around the world. Sarcos Robotics, with more than 30 years of research, development and expertise under our belts, is committed to making sure the world is a safer place.

Throughout 2017, the company has made great strides in bringing complex robotics technologies to life in an effort to reduce injuries, accidents and deaths on the job. The commercial release of our Guardian S robotic mobile Internet of Things (IoT) platform — the first-of-its kind surveillance and inspection robot that is uniquely capable of going into areas where humans either cannot or should not go — was announced earlier in 2017. Many industry experts, including John Santagate from IDC, are taking notice: “The Guardian S is full of utility and has the potential to change the way disaster recovery and public safety workers operate. The robot is both cost-effective and easy-to-use, but perhaps its greatest benefit is its ability to increase the safety and awareness of human first responders.”

The Guardian GT will be a game-changer for a host of global markets

Another significant milestone in October was the official unveiling our Guardian GT—a first-of-its-kind large scale industrial robot that combines dexterity and strength unlike any other robot in the world. With its ability to lift up to 1,000 pounds with minimal human effort, the GT made headlines for its ability to operate in dangerous or hazardous environments. What’s even more special about the Guardian GT – and Sarcos – is how we integrate the science of human kinematics to make our robots mimic the movement of the body. This creates an incredibly intuitive experience for the operator, while requiring minimal training for our customers.

The Guardian GT will be a game-changer for a host of global markets including construction, heavy equipment manufacturing, nuclear, maritime, petroleum, logistics, disaster recovery and public safety. These types of breakthroughs are what drive the evolution of today’s human workforce.

We were very honored to have the Guardian GT be awarded Frost & Sullivan’s 2017 North American Dexterous Mobile Robots Technology Innovation Award, as well as being named as one of the ten best robots of 2017 by the International Business Times. The possibilities for the Guardian GT are limitless, and span a wide variety of industries, including disaster recovery, public safety, defense and security.

2018 is already shaping up to be another milestone-filled year for Sarcos. We will be focusing on the development of the first untethered, battery-powered exoskeletons—the Guardian XO and XO MAX. These amazing robots will be the next step in the evolution of defining the workforce of tomorrow.
