Admiral (Ret.) William “Bill” Owens
Admiral William “Bill” Owens has built a storied career in both the military and private sector.
He is the former Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the second-ranking military officer in the United States. Among his many distinguished roles during his military service, he served as the Commander of the U.S. Sixth Fleet during Operation Desert Storm, the director of the Office of Program Appraisal for the Secretary of the Navy and as Commander of Submarine Group Six, the Navy’s largest submarine group.
Following his retirement from the military, Owens pursued a distinguished private sector career in the technology and telecommunications industries, currently serving as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of CenturyLink and as the Chairman of AEA Investors ASIA. Previously, Admiral Owens served as Vice Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Nortel Networks Corporation, taking the helm of the company following the disclosure of accounting irregularities.
Owens also served as Vice Chairman, President and Chief Operating Officer of Science Applications International Corporation. Admiral Owens is currently a director of AEA Investors LP, Polycom, Inc., Viasystems Group, Inc., Wipro Limited, Flow Mobile, and Intelius Inc.
